Description
Summary:Studies of tribe Schismatoglottideae (sensu Wong & al. 2010) have made it evident that a significant proportion of the species are either undescribed or poorly circumscribed. Species-level taxonomy of Bucephalandra Schott in particular has been revealed to be much obfuscated by the difficulty of interpreting the abundant but mostly inadequately prepared herbarium specimens, coupled with an almost complete failure to correlate the type material of the few published names to plants encountered in the field. It must be stated that this problem is by no means a new one; indeed it has been at the root of taxonomic confusion and misapplication of names in Bucephalandra ever since the genus was established by Schott in 1858. (Bogner 1980; Boyce & Wong 2012).
