Phytoplankton have been monitored using satellite remote sensing technology, where the satellite sensor can capture the earth surface, including the data on chlorophyll-a (Chl-a). The goal of this study was to analyse the changes in phytoplankton biomass throughout 2012-2020 by using the satellite remote sensing information. The study sites of this study were Sematan and Santubong from Sarawak and Putatan and Kuala Penyu, Kota Kinabalu. The Chl-a data were acquired from NASA Ocean Color website using MODIS-Aqua (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensor. From this project, the trend of the Chl-a concentration from the satellite database were observed. The highest Chl-a concentration reported was 12.082 mg/m3 and not to be considered as bloom formation.
