Description
Summary:The utilization of Air-Conditioners (Air-Cond) nowadays has increased significantly ever since the Movement Control Order (MCO) has been issued. This is mainly because most people are working from home. The increase in the number of Air-Cond usage especially without proper energy management among the dwellers results in an increase in electricity demand in residential areas. The higher the energy demand from the consumers, the more fossil fuels are burned to generate electricity to meet this demand. As a result, more carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gases (GHG)are produced. Hence, it is important to manage energy usage wisely. However, most Air-Cond owners are ignorant of how much energy is consumed by their Air-Cond which leads to an increase in the utility bill. Moreover, the conventional way of Air-Cond usage among consumers may be counterproductive for energy management. Other than that, it is physically challenging for the elderly and disabled to control the temperature of the Air-Cond due to mobility constraints. Thus, this project is conducted to design a smart Air-Cond system to resolve these issues, as well as to investigate the effectiveness of a smart Air-Cond system in decreasing the energy usage of Air-Cond and the electric costs. The "Smart IoT-Based Controlling Air-Conditioner System" is a system that enables homeowners to track and control their Air-Cond's energy usage using a specially designed smartphone application. The smart system comprises two smart devices which are the Smart Air-Cond Socket, which can measure Air-Cond’s electrical parameters and the Smart Air-Cond Controller which controls the temperature of the Air-Cond corresponding to the ambient temperature. It has been discovered that utilization of the Smart Air-Cond Controller can reduce energy consumption and utility costs compared to not using one.
