"Comparative Bird Diversity in Paddy Field Areas during Planting and Harvesting Stages in Southwestern Sarawak"

Paddy fields have a significant importance to water birds and migratory birds. The proposed sites for this study are paddy fields in Skuduk-Chupak Village, Serian, Kampung Baru, Samarahan, and Stunggang Melayu Baru Village, Lundu. Secondary data was used partially for this project, collected by Fatimah Husnin (2016). Bird survey was done by mist-netting method and visual survey via line transect. A total of 1056 individuals were identified comprising 31 families and 63 species. A t-test shows that there is a significant difference between planting and harvesting stages (t=11.282, p<0.05). Shannon Index shows that Baru Village, Samarahan has the highest bird diversity among three sites, with a value of 2.661.
