Description
Summary:One of Malaysia’s elements of intangible cultural heritage is Gendang Melayu Sarawak. The art has been practised for ages and was once being famous type of entertainment which is comprising singing, dancing and berpantun (rhyming verse) among the Malay community in villages across Borneo. The other villagers from their villages would come and joined bermukun particularly at weddings, special occasions and ceremonies as part of entertainment to reveal their singing and dancing capabilities. The traditional cultural practice of the Malays, Kedayans and Melanaus is rarely found nowadays and only certain villages still preserving Gendang Melayu Sarawak by building a team and giving exposure to the younger generation in the villages. Some existing platforms are built for preserving Gendang Melayu Sarawak. However, there are still gaps in between that need to be filled such as the interaction between users and the interactive multimedia. If this issue still prolonged without any early prevention, Gendang Melayu Sarawak would be extinct anytime. Therefore, e-GMS is the proposed system for providing an informative and interactive information about Gendang Melayu Sarawak in form of web-based system.
