Description
Summary:This study examines the relationship of murids at the genera level. The samples for this study were collected from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak Campus (UNIMAS), Kubah National Park, Matang Wildlife Centre, and Bako National Park. DNA was extracted from tissue samples using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) protocol. By using the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) NADH dehydrogenase subunit-2 (ND2) gene, the phylogenetic trees from total amount of 10 species constructed using Neighbour-Joining (NJ), Maximum Parsimony (MP), and Maximun Likelihood (ML) analyses. The trees were analyzed using Molecular Evolutionary Genetic Analysis (MEGA) to produce three different topologies. All three tress produced were resolved and showed that murids are monophyletic group. All of the individuals from representative genus present in the study grouped with the individuals from their respective genus. Future study consisting multiple genera from the family should be important to resolve the evolutionary relationship within the family Muridae.
