Data were gathered from 6 employees from organization in Kota Kinabalu area. Qualitative research methodology is used in this research and the data were collected using Semistructured interview as the instrument. The data were analysed using content analysis which was condensation, code, category, inference and summarize. The findings have shown that distraction was the main impact of smartphone technology that make employees work performance decrease in private sector in Kota Kianabalu, Sabah. Besides, findings from this study also indicated that the most affecting ways to cope with this issue was employees need to stay focus and know their priority in the organization. The study contributes to the existing pool of knowledge to the employees in private sector in Malaysia. It has enhanced both the organization and human resource practitioners’ knowledge and understanding on how smartphone technology can impact work performance in private sector in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
