The main objective of this study is to find out the relationship between social media addiction and self-esteem among undergraduate students of UNIMAS. This is a quantitative research and two types of questionnaires been used to collect data, which are Social media use and the internet addiction test (IAT) and Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. There result shows that there is a significant relationship between social media addiction and self-esteem. One of the important implications on counselling and psychotherapy is for the therapists, who help resolve an individual with low self-esteem due to their social comparisons end up making upward and downward comparisons with others. Counsellors have to be competent enough to help clients with self-esteem issue. This study also recommended the future studies to focus on specific social media sites, choosing a larger sample size and having a Malay translation with understanding of the norm and culture.
