Therefore, the objectives of the research are to determine the preference of Chilo suppressalis towards different varieties of paddy and to document the life cycle of Chilo suppressalis. 15 individuals of the Chilo suppressalis were introduced in the three replicates of the portable insect house which contained eight varieties of paddy. The varieties represented four varieties of hill rice (Impun, Sunoi Kumang, Pulut Hitam and Gintik) and four varieties of swamp paddy (MR12, Hitam-Wangi, Padi Perintah and Bario). An adult of Chilo suppressalis was introduced in the three replicates of the portable insect house for the life cycle study. For the varieties preference study, the most varieties that preferred by the Chilo suppressalis was Padi Perintah and the varieties that least preferred by the Chilo suppressalis was Padi Sunoi Kumang.. However, it does not have a significant different among of the variety tested (p=0.063); p>0.05). For the life cycle of the Chilo suppressalis study, the process can be observed until the larval stage. Egg took 7 days to hatch and the larva only can be observed until day 23 of larva stage.
