Summary: | Most of the traditional sector activities consist of primary sector activities such as agriculture, fishery, small-scale business and other low profit activities. The salient characteristics of this sector are high incidence poverty, low productivity, lack of basic economic and social
infrastructures. This study examines and investigates the ways of households manage and conduct the economy activity. Besides, this study also identified variety of economy activity or diversification ofthe livelihood strategies.
Quantitative approach was used in conducted the research. The interview was conducted toward 32 respondents from chosen villages, Kampung Sebandi Matang and Kampung Sambir. This is because these villages were predominantly rural domain and were involved in agriculture activity. The study shows that majority of villagers still involved in traditional sector. It also indicates and represents that the role of traditional sector play significant role for the rural area as a main resource for them. Besides, the earnings were important for support the household and
children's education. The study also contribute to the literature on livelihoods of smallholder in Asajaya by indicate the important of traditional sector among the respondents. Also, the type of technology that used
was indicate that the plantation was for mainly for survive through earnings. As such traditional sector was important for the rural people that not have high education. |
