Karambunai is a tourist area was inhabited by the villagers before the advent of tourism development Nexus Resort. This study was carried out to analyze and discuss the impact of tourism development Nexus Resort and Spa Karambunai on local socio-economic. Socio-economic impacts that were studied are positive and negative which is encompasses issues of land ownership, local participation in the workforce, and education. The first objective of this study is to discuss the process of setting up a resort, then identify the issues that arise after the establishment of the resort, next examine the involvement of the villagers as resort employees, the final objective is to study the changes in the educational context. In addition to secondary sources, data collection method used in this study was through questionnaires and interviews. A total of 60 respondents Head of Household (KIR) answered questionnaires were distributed and seven key-informants were interviewed. Data from the questionnaires were analyzed using the software for Statistic Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18 and analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that prior known as the Nexus Resort and Spa Karambunai resort's early name is Nexus Resort Karambunai. This resort has existed after the landowners Karambunai agreed to lease land for 99 years with the agreement began in 1980. After the existence of the tourist areas, the issue that arises is the issue of land claims and the issue of residents transfer. The study also found that many local people involved as an employee of the resort in areas that are less skilled, but their involvement has increased revenue and help improve their living standards despite the salary paid is not commensurate with the work they do. The existence of the resort does not help in improving the academic locals but has helped in terms of getting access to education as compared to the situation prior to admission resort.
