This paper aims to explore further on the viability of local integration as a durable solution to the protracted refugee situations (PRS). Local integration is one of the three solutions to the plight of refugees. However, it is a contested solution as it concerns the rights of both the refugees and the local community. Thus, it is imperative to ensure the rights of both communities are not depleted in order to manifest a successful local integration. This research employed qualitative data and utilize secondary data including desktop research (online databases) and written resources (literatures). It is imperative to acknowledge the trend of the global refugee population, the trend of the PRS and the factors led to the PRS in the background of the issue before scrutinizing the research questions. This paper examines the challenges of local integration as a durable solution to mitigate the PRS in which the impacts of local integration on both the refugees and host countries are taken into consideration. The efficiency of local integration to alleviate the PRS is also analysed by looking into the policies of the host countries pertaining to refugees. The examples are used in analysing the three research questions to illustrate the implications of local integration in different countries with respect to its political, economical, social and environmental background. This paper does not seek for the best solution but to explore local integration as an alternative towards the plight of refugees.
