Description
Summary:A study on the perfonnance of papaya (Carica papaya L.) seeds under different storage environment was carned out in ambient room (28-30°C; 70-80% RH), air-conditioned (21 22OC; 45-50% RH), refrigerator (3-5°C; 42% RH), and oven (35-38°C; 40% RH) for 30 days. The moisture content of the seeds for air-conditioned and refrigerator storage environments were high compared to other storage environments. Moisture content of seeds stored in oven was the lowest. The moisture content of seeds in all four storage environments were reduced gradually as the storage period was increased. For the first three days of storage, seed gennination for all of the storage environments was high. Germination started to decrease slowly except for seeds stored in the oven where the decline in gennination percentage was drastic. Seeds stored in air-conditioned environment exhibited the highest gennination percentage as compared to other storage environments for a period of 30 days.
