Sanitary engineering ( The main purpose of this study was to assess the impact of industrial activities in ASSAR Senari Industrial Complex (ASIC) on water quality where the industrial facilities in the complex discharged their waste water into the surrounding rivers (Sg Jemang and Sg. Senari). Water samples from the period of Third Quarter 2008 till Third Quarter 2009 for both streams were analyzed. It was found that some water quality parameters exceeded the Class II threshold of National Water Quality Standards (NWQS) in the five (5) quarters for both streams especially for DO, COD and TSS values. No heavy metals exceeded the limits designated by NWQS) The results also indicated that the rivers fall under Class III, in accordance with the National Water Quality Classification. As for treated wastewater that was discharged in Sg Senari (WWl), the BOD5, COD and TSS parameters for all the quarters (Fourth Quarter 2008 till Second Quarter 2009) exceeded the Standard B limits of 3rd Schedule of Environmental Quality (Sewage and Industrial Eilluent) Reg. 1979. As for the rest of the parameters, the water analysis parameters were within the Standard B limits. Thus, the activities from the industrial facilities in the complex have affected the quality of the two streams and it was recommended that necessary mitigation steps be taken to ensure the water quality in the surrounding area meets DOE requirements.
