There are about 55 genera that have been recorded under this family and one of the genera is Amomum. This genus is still lack of research and taxonomic description and it need to be explored more because in other country such as China, the seed of Amomum has an economical value, so it can generate income to our country, Malaysia. This project is to study the morphological and anatomical characteristic of seed of Amomum in order to compare the genus itself for identification process if there is no inflorescence present as nowadays this genus is identified through the characteristic of its inflorescence. There were 13 species of seed that has been observed in this study including Amomum cerasinum, A. durum, A. flavoalbum, A. lappaceum, A. laxisquamosum, A. oliganthum, A. spiceum, A. xanthophlebium, Amomum sp. 8 (aff. uliginosum), Amomum sp. 9, Amomum sp. 10, Amomum sp. 13 and Amomum sp. 16. However, there are four species that cannot be identified up to species level due to lack of reference and availability of inflorescences.
