Investigating the Effect of Media Supplements on the Xylanase Production by Aspergillus Jlavus via Solid State Fermentation

Xylanase, which is a xylan degrading enzyme, has a vast potential in eco-friendly based technologies mainly in bio-bleaching in pulp and paper industries, thus, it has been extensively studied. The nutrient supplements are essential for fungal growth and enzyme biosynthesis. The production of xylana...

The nutrient supplements are essential for fungal growth and enzyme biosynthesis. The production of xylanase can be further enhanced by evaluating the type and concentration of carbon and nitrogen sources used along with suitable lignocellulosic substrates. This study was conducted to determine the effects of carbon sources (lactose and sucrose), and nitrogen sources (peptone and ammonia sulfate) and their concentrations on the xylanase produced by Aspergillus flavus cultivated on pineapple peel. The enzyme activities were estimated by using DNS enzyme assay. The result revealed that lactose was the best carbon source for high xylanase activity (0.2163 U/ml) at 1.0% of concentration while peptone was the best nitrogen source for high xylanase activity (0.3095 U/ml) at 1.0% of concentration.
