Summary:A study on the ethnobotanical va lue o f plants among the Ka yan and Kenyah communities of Sungai Asap was carried out in th ree villages; Urna Belor, Urna Daro and Lebu Kulil. A total 0[ 80 plant species from 49 fami lies with one unknown species from Pteridaceae family were recorded to have ethnobotanical values. Also recorded, six plants with unknown botanical name and fa mili es~ beleng la, da un, daun birak, daun USWlg, tanyit, and Wl.l beran. Thirty eight specimens were coUeeted and deposited at Herbariwn of Unive rsiti Ma laysia Sarawak (HUMS). The uses of plant are di vided into several categories which included edible pan (fruit, seed and nut, vegetables, spices/fl avours and stimulant), chemical compound (medicinal, poison, and dye), religious or spiritual use, technical use (construction, various tool, firewood , fibe r.. and wrappers) and others like miscellaneous plant, ornamental, cash crop and remedies for bathing. The finding indicates that 73 .75% of tbe recorded species with known uses is found in wild . Sixteen species are used by the communities for medicinal purpose. Amoug the 16 species, only one species, Rhaphidophora minor Hookf. has not been recorded for medicinal used by others comrDlmities. Meanwhile, only ten spec e~ were selected for alkaloid, flavonoid and saponin preliminary phytochemical test which are Carica papaya L., Centella asiatica (L.) Urb., Citrus hystrix DC., Curcuma domestil; a Valet. , Goniothalamus macrophyllus (B1.) Urb., Melastoma malabatricum L., Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott., Passiflorafoetida L., Piper nigrum L., and Psidium guajaya L.
