Description
Summary:The importance of a child's early formative years in education is acknowledged worldwide. The Sarawakian student’s experience to gain formal education includes many challenges, considering that the state faces the greatest infrastructure challenges, also being the state with the highest percentage of rural schools in Malaysia, and which falls in the low socio economic status. Despite it all, the success story of SK Ulu Lubai achieving 100% of passes in the UPSR exam since 2006 is a proof that despite poor rural conditions, Sarawakian schools and students are able to excel in terms of academic standards. While the Malaysian education system offers a variety of opportunities to assist students from the rural outreach, many factors contribute and influence their success. This study aims to explore problems faced and factors that lead to excellent academic performance among students in Sarawak, through a quantitative case study research. A purposive sampling of eight Sarawakian bumiputera or indigenous student were interviewed. There are nine research questions altogether and they were all plotted from the research objectives. Findings and discussion included Challenges of Primary and Secondary ry Education, Early Experience of Primary and Secondary Education, Ways to Study, Problems Affecting Learning, Solutions Leading to Growth, Location of Study, Ways to Share Knowledge, Unique Qualities for Success, and the External Factors Helping Success. The findings of this study were able to answer all the research questions.
