Chemotaxonomical significane of muscle tissue oil extracts from five families of bornean frogs

A study was carried out to detennine the chemical composition of the fatly acids from the five families of Borneo frogs which are Oicgroglossidae, Rhacophoridae, Bufonidae, Ranidac and Mircohylidae. The tissue of frogs were extracted by using the Bligh and Dyer method to obtain the oil extract. Meth...

Methylated fatly acid in oil samples were analysed by gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID). The percentages of total lipid content in the species of frog from different family were calculated with Microhylidae was the highest of 88%. A total of 17 futty acids were identified with lauric acid as the major saturated fatty acid that can be found in the all of samples. The variation of fatty acid in Bornean frogs was analysed by using Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA), The dendogram showed that Limnonectes malesianus and Odorrana hosii, Ka/oula pulchra and Phrynoidis jutaspera were closely related to each other while Polypedate otilophus is not showed any significance relationship to other species.
