Summary: | The present standard grading system used in schools does not provide a realistic projection of students' performances in public examinations such as the Lower Secondary Assessment (PeniJaian Menengah Rendah, PMR). Currently most school adopt the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education whereby the school trial examination marks are mapped to the actual public examination grades to determine the school's baseline data, a set of minimum marks to grade their students' academic performance.
The set of baseline marks vary by subject and year. The current year baseline marks for each grade is calculated using the three-year moving average technique. This set of projected baseline marks for grades are used to forecast the student's grade for the forthcoming PMR based on the student's academic performance in school. To
., date, such method to determine the baseline data is done manually and it is subjective as it depends on a teacher's personal viewpoint. |
