Character design plays an important role in order to convey the story in an animation. Different types of character design can bring impact to the story and attract variance groups of audience. Stylised character design is referred to artist’s preference style of his drawing. The roles of characters is defined on the specific group of identity that given to the character to lead the story in animation. Stylised character design is challenging due to the appropriateness of design to suit the storyline and to establish the kind of look and feel of the animation. Hybrid animation is the combination between 2D and 3D animation techniques within a single animation sequences. Hence, the aim of research was to study integration of character design based on Western and Eastern culture character design into hybrid animation. The objectives of this research were to identify the style based on western and eastern culture in character design, to analyse the role of character in animation. In addition, this research also examined the application of stylised character design into hybrid animation as well as to recommend stylised character design framework for local animation. The scope of this research included study the quality of lines, form and shape and analyse role of character. Observation and case study were conducted to investigate the accurate finding for this research. This research recommend a practical guideline for stylised character design for amateurs and researchers.
