Q Science (General) QR Microbiology Nowadays, swiftlet farming becomes the most profitable agrarian business. Farming were build to accommodate the swiflet, the nest were harvested and sold as expensive health products. Aim of this study is to identify the presence of bacteria in swiftlet farming. Samples of bacteria feces were collected at different sites that are Mauludam, Samarahan and Serian. All the isolates were identify according to Bergy's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology and twelve different biochemical test was performed to each of the isolates. Nine bacteria species were identify such as Klebesilla pneumonia sub ozanae, n=23, Klebesilla pneumonia sub pneumonia, n=1 Serratia fonticola, n=10, Serratia liquifrences, n=1, C'itrobacter freundiin=7 Enterobacter intermedius, n=5 Edwarseiella tarda, n=2, Escherchia coli, n=2 and Proteus vulgaris, n=2. Fifty four identified isolates were characterized by antibiotics test and RAPD fingerprinting. Eleven antibiotics were used in this study such as amplicilin, carbanecillin, tetracycline, nalidixic acid, chloramphinicol, gentamicin, sulfamethoxazole, streptomycin, nitrofurantoin and norfloxacin. The antibiotics test pattern shows that 84.61% of the isolates show resistance to carbanecillin, 73.07% show resistance to amplicilin, 57.69% show resistance to sulfamethoxazole. The isolates show 76.93% susceptible to tetracycline and 71.15% susceptible to nortloxacin. All three sites of swiftlet farming show MAR index note than 0.2. This show that the isolates came from high risk source. The RAPD-PCR fingerprinting shows that the isolates are highly diverse. unimas 2012 Final Year Project Report NonPeerReviewed text en http://ir.unimas.my/id/eprint/21252/1/Isolation%20and%20characterization%20of%20bacteria...%2824%20pgs%29.pdf text en http://ir.unimas.my/id/eprint/21252/8/Isolation%20and%20characterization%20of%20bacteria...%28fulltext%29.pdf Norizawati, Muhamad Nur.
