Description
Summary:This thesis focuses on developing models for evaluating the contribution of engineering management (EM) towards output and output growth of machinery manufacturing in small medium enterprises (SMEs). In particular, this study is in the field of operations research in manufacturing engineering. Literature review proved that this work was not done before and appeared an important research. In this aspect, the current work is fundamental and novel in manufacturing engineering management domain. Specifically, this study focuses on the internal factors of machinery manufacturing SMEs related to engineering management and its effect towards production performance. Based on the literature review findings on production process and production growth theory, the required models have been developed. The models are: (1) Model based on (short period term) production function with engineering management input for evaluating the output of machinery manufacturing SMEs; (2) Model to evaluate the engineering management’s contribution towards output of machinery manufacturing SMEs; and (3) Model to evaluate the engineering management’s contribution to output growth of machinery manufacturing SMEs. The models were developed by using short period term production function with key production variables and engineering management. Labour involved in machinery production process, machinery components and parts, capital spent for production operation; and engineering management are the main independent variables that some have considered as inputs.
