Description
Summary:A study on the crude extracts of Erechtites valerianifolia extracted first by hexane followed by chloroform and finally by ethanol was carried out. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis of the crude extracts reveals the presence of a visible bright yellow spot which may indicate the presence of flavanoid compounds. Flavanoid detection from a previous study confirms this. The hexane extract was subjected to column chromatography and six fractions with similar occurrence of spots on TLC were obtained. Infrared spectroscopy was carried out on all the crudc extracts and fractions revealing the presence of similar transmission patterns which corresponds to the assignments of carbonyl, hydroxyl, CH and C=C which further supports the presence of flavanoid compounds. Cytotoxicity test on the crude extracts reveal that only the ethanol extracts yields cytotoxicity.
