In fact, the application of the smart home concept is not an unknown in Sarawak, but its development is still slow and in the stage of evolving compared to conventional homes. Thus, this research is having the scope of study that focuses on the development of smart homes in residential projects in Sarawak, and focuses on the stakeholders who involve in the residential projects in Sarawak, which are the housing developers, architects, G7 contractors, quantity surveyors and home buyers in Sarawak. The objectives of this research are to identify the potential benefits of smart homes in residential projects in Sarawak, to determine the challenges of applying the smart home concept in residential projects in Sarawak, and to propose possible solutions for overcoming challenges when applying the smart home concept in residential projects in Sarawak. To achieve these objectives, a mixed method is used, by distributing questionnaires first and analyzing the quantitative data obtained using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), then followed by interviewing and analyzing the qualitative data using thematic analysis. This research is expected to obtain potential benefits, challenges, and proposed solutions concerning the application of smart homes in Sarawak based on the category of rating from quantitative data, and get qualitative data to act as supplementary descriptions to the potential benefits, challenges, and proposed solutions in quantitative data.
