This waste has a major impact on the economy, society, and environment. This study discovers and analyses factors contributing waste generation on construction sites in Kuching, Sarawak. In addition, minimizing strategies are proposed for the factors contributing to physical waste. The quantitative method was used to collect data for this study. The questionnaires were distributed to the contractors involved in various construction projects in Kuching, Sarawak. The CIDB directory was used to obtain the list of contractor companies. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was utilized to analyze the data using a combination of reliability analysis and descriptive analysis. Findings of this study revealed that the major physical waste was caused by design flaws, frequent design changes, using unsuitable tools, inadequate material handling, lack of experience and knowledge, lack of site waste management and supplier error. Strategies to minimize the significant factors have been proposed for each stage of the construction process which are design documentations assurance and appropriateness and Implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for design stage; Introduce award and penalty scheme for non-compliance during tender stage; logistic management for preconstruction stage; site supervision and management as well as onsite and offsite sorting during construction stage and main contractor must carry out post completion reconciliation and proper disposal during post-construction stage. This study provides a helpful guide for reducing waste in the construction industry and achieving sustainable waste minimization.
