This has been attributed to the decomposition of salt into volatile oxide, V,Os and it appeared to the sole reason for catastrophic corrosion. The addition of Na,S04 to NaV03 lowered the oxidation rate of coated steel due to nonformation of volatile product in the temperature range 650-IOCO°C.
