This thesis analyzes the performance of chopper-fed separately excited DC motor by using Matlab/ Simulink®. Electrical parts of the DC drive consist of the DC source, the DC motor and the chopper. In this thesis, Buck converter is used as a chopper to drive separately excited DC motor. The DC motor is fed by the DC source through a chopper that consists of a GTO thyristor and a diode. Specification of the motor used in this project is 240V and 5Hp. In the beginning the chopper and the motor are modeled and then developed in Matlab/ Simulink® environment. Analyzes of the chopper performance is done by varying the setting of the speed controller, speed step, hysteresis and torque step.
