This project presents a synchronous boost converter that comprises an input for receiving a DC input voltage, an output for producing a DC output voltage, a power switch controllable to adjust an output signal of the conversion system, and an inductor coupled to the input. A synchronous boost converter is used for Cellular Telephones, Handheld Computers, MP3 Players, GPS Receivers, Battery Backup Supplies and other application that use a low voltage supply. With the increasing use of low voltage portable devices, efficient power management techniques are needed for longer battery life. It uses synchronous rectification architecture to reduce the conduction loss and improve the efficiency. The simulation results show an efficiency of more than 80% with an input voltage of 3 V and with a load current of 10 mA to 1 A. A synchronous rectifier is configurable to create a conduction path between the inductor and the output to provide the inductor discharge.
