C-axis orientation, good crystalline properties and less structural defects containing ZnO nanorods of diameter < 70 nm were obtained. These were confirmed through XRD, FESEM and photoluminescence analysis. The nanostructured ZnO was tested for detecting acetone, a hazardous and irritant gas frequently used in industries. The fabricated nanorods exhibited excellent acetone sensing properties in a home-made gas chamber at 325 _C. The detection limit was 0.05 ppm of acetone and the response time was 8 s. The easy preparation and high sensitivity of the nanorods ZnO suggested its feasibility to be used in acetone sensing devices. 2014-04-23T05:09:27Z 2014-04-23T05:09:27Z 2013-12 Article Advanced Science Letters, vol. 19(12), 2013, pages 3560-3563 1936-6612 http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/asp/asl/2013/00000019/00000012/art00027?token=00531e21657a4b293d6c53437a63736a6f7c47794c7a766770443a4a6f644a467c79675d7c4e724770e http://dspace.unimap.edu.my:80/dspace/handle/123456789/33948 en American Scientific Publishers
