Industrialized Building System (IBS) is defined as construction systems in which components are manufactured in a factory, on or off site, positioned and assembled into a structure with a minimal additional site works. The five common types of IBS are the pre-cast concrete framing, panel and box systems, steel formwork, steel framing, prefabricated timber framing and block work systems. Undoubtedly, with better productivity, quality and safety, IBS will contribute towards a better construction industry, as well as enhance the global competitiveness of Malaysian builders. This study focused to study the effect of wind load to IBS structure in Malaysia. The study highlights the advantages, disadvantages and the factor that affecting the usage of IBS system in building high rise structure in our construction industry. The structure data in this study are gathered from construction companies that using IBS in their project. From the data collected, software SAP2000 are used to find the shears force, moment and deflection maximum of the structure. All the details are inserted to the software and the result are gathered after running the analysis. The findings indicate that wind load did not giving large damage to the building structure under normal condition. Due to low wind speed and corresponding low wind loading, generally, buildings in Malaysia do not experience extensive damages due to extreme wind events Therefore, IBS has high potential to be applied widely in our construction industry of high rise structure. However, the utilization of IBS in private sector still in the minimum level even though the main players in this sector have good knowledge in IBS. 2013-03-28T02:11:00Z 2013-03-28T02:11:00Z 2012-05 Learning Object http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/24152 en Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) School of Environmental Engineering |
