Extraction of essential oil from jasmine flower using supercritical CO2 method
An essential oil is an aromatic liquid that is extracted from various parts of the plants. It contained the true essence of the plants. Jasmine essential oils are primarily used in the perfumery industry and have a very high commercial value due to its therapeutic properties. Since Jasmine essential...

Since Jasmine essential oils are composed of heat-sensitive chemical compounds, the use of the conventional method such as steam distillation would inevitably inflict thermal degradation to the natural fragrance and some processes use solvent that can destroy the therapeutic properties. A good essential oils is where's after extraction, the properties of a good quality essential oil should be as close as possible to the essence of the original plant. The key to achieve this is through low pressure and temperature processing by using supercritical fluid extraction method (SFE). The basic principle of this extraction is the solubility of a solute in a solvent varies with temperature and pressure .Supercritical fluid (SCF) plays a major role as a solvent in this method. Through this extraction technique, C02 is use as a SFC because of its low critical properties. By using supercritical C02, extraction can be performed in a shorter time and it will not alter the chemical signature of perfumes. It will be the most optimum method to get a pure essential oil without leaning residue of any solvent inside it. Moreover by using this method higher yield of essential oil is produced and it promote that C02 is the best supercritical fluid in extraction of fragrance compound where's it is non-toxic which consist as environmental friendly . 2007-04 Research Report NonPeerReviewed pdf en http://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/36513/1/Extraction%20of%20essential%20oil%20from%20jasmine%20flower%20using%20supercritical%20CO2%20method.wm.pdf Syaiful Nizam, Hassan (2007) Extraction of essential oil from jasmine flower using supercritical CO2 method. , [Research Report: Research Report] (Unpublished) |
