Summary: | Teluk Kalung is located at the southern part of Terengganu. It is known as an oil-and-gas based industry. It is also part of Sungai Perlis Beds which age about 359.2 to 299 million years ago which intruded by Jengai Granite 251 million years ago. The lithostratigraphy that had been observed in this study area consists of sandstone units, shales units, metasediments units, granitoid body and superficial deposits. There are Carboniferous plant fossils found to be preserved in the shales units in this study area; the Pteridosperm plants which are Rhacopteris sp., Sphenopteris sp. and Sphenopteridium sp. All of these plants fossils lived in warm and humid near-shore environment. The sedimentology study shows that the past depositional environment for the sedimentary rocks in this study area was deposited in marginal-marine environment. Meanwhile, the origin of the minerals in the sandstone of the study area originated from the sediments of recycled orogeny and craton interior based on the provenance study of the sandstones. |
