Description
Summary:The study focuses on sedimentary facies and depositional environment of Felda Aring 4 and Aring, Kelantan. Geology plays an important role to human being because it provides information about the processes and formation of rock bodies on the Earth. One of the branches of geology is sedimentology. Sedimentary facies is a group of rock bodies that possess similar characteristics in terms of lithology, sedimentary structures, fossil content, geometry and paleocurrent. There are five facies identified in the study area: shale facies, contorted sandstone-shale facies, interbedded sandstone-shale facies, interbedded sandstone-siltstone facies and planar-bedded, mud dominated micrite limestone facies. Each facies reflects the depositional environment in which they were deposited. Depositional environments can be correlated under facies association. Three facies association were interpreted based on the facies: Deep Marine Facies, Subaqueous Delta Plain Facies and Shallow Marine Facies. The argillaceous dominated sequences in study area are from Telong Formation. From the fossil content, the age of Telong Formation can be interpreted to be Lower to Upper Triassic.
