Description
Summary:Malaysia forest are rich in plant species diversity that can be used as raw materials in a product. Nowadays, consumer actively seeking green product when they purchase and this trend is growing.Consumer attitude towards green product shifted from the used of synthetic dyes to natural dyes.Synthetic dyes, are commonly known as dangerous, harmful and can cause environmental pollution. This study was done to investigate the ability of natural dyes from fruit of Clidemia hirta in bilogical stain and cosmetic used.Clidemia hirta L.D.Don. belongs to a family of Melastomataceae. The process started with extraction using water as a solvent. The colour obtained from extraction was blue black. Natural colourant then undergoes the freeze drying process to remove water.Onion cell and human cheek cell are used in staining procedure. For cosmetic used, Clidemia hirta colour used to colour the soap. Results from this research shown that colour of the fruit of Clidemia hirta has ability to staion onion and cheek cells with greyish green colour.Beside, yellow colour was obtained in colour of soap. Different colour was showed different levels of intensity depends on the ratio of water and Clidemia hirta sample during preparation of solutions. Thus, it can conclude that natural colourant from Clidemia hirta can be used in biological stain and cosmetic application.
