The objective of the study was to update the geological map of the study area to 1:25000 scales. The specification of the study was to identify potential landfill zones for sustainable waste management by using Geographic Information System (GIS) in Tanah Merah District, Kelantan. The objectives for the study were to identify the geological factors that control the suitability of landfill development and to produce potential landfill zones for Tanah Merah District, Kelantan by using GIS. Field study such as mapping and sampling was carried out in order to update the geological map. The lithology distribution of the study area was comprised of andesite. GIS was utilized for the purpose of identifying the potential landfill zones. The selected criteria for identification of potential landfill zones were included elevation (slope), landuse, aquifer potential, geology or soil types, proximity to water sources (water body and river). Thematic maps with classes of suitability were then overlain to each other to produce a map that indicated the potential landfill zones of the study area. The intersected areas were the potential zones for landfill siting. PI and P2 were selected to be the potential zones for landfill siting. 2015 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Wong, Lok San (2015) General geology of Tanah Merah town and identification of potential landfill zones for sustainable waste management by using geographic information system (GIS) in Tanah Merah District, Kelantan.
