Summary: | MATAG referred to a new hybrid of coconut which had been hybridize from original coconut exist in Malaysia which is Malaysia Yellow Dwarf (MYD) or Malaysia Red Dwarf (MRD) with Tagnanan Tall coconut which have exist in Philippine. Coconut oil are the essential oil extracted from any coconut species, Cocos Nucifera L member from the palm family, Arecaceae may exerted many benefits towards health. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) mentioned to the oil which extracted or obtained from mature, fresh coconut kernel by means of mechanical and natural method without proceed to the chemical refining. Hence, this study conducted to determine the antioxidant and phytochemical profiling of VCO extracted from MATAG coconut seed by using freeze-thawing technique. Sample was recovered from fresh MATAG coconut fruits and stock solution prepared from immiscible layer of solvent and VCO. Analyses involved were total phenolic compound (TPC) determination, DPPH radical scavenging activity test and TLC-DPPH bio autography test. Standard BHT against VCO scavenging activity (%) graphs were plotted and IC₅ₒ, obtained was at 38 μg/ml and 33 μg/ml respectively. Scavenging effects of BHT and VCO at 12.5 μg/ml were differentiated using bar chart for interpretation and obtained at 14.2% with 31.5% respectively. Milligram Gallic acid equivalent per gram (mgGAE/ml) obtained with value of 1.1655 mgGAE/ml sample by equation of TPC linear graph of 725nm absorbance versus concentration at 10 μg/ml. Pearson correlation R-value between DPPH assay and TPC data was 0.545 with 2-tailed significant deviated with value 0.633 (r>0.05). |
