Study of pseudomonas and aeromonas spp. colonized in smoke asian clam (corbicula fluminea) with emphasis on their antibiogram

Asian Clam usually consumed by the local people in Kelantan and suspected to cause the gastroenteritis diseases among consumers. This study was carried out to investigate the antibiogram and Multiple Antibiotic Resistance (MAR) index of Pseudomonas spp. isolated from the smoked C. fluminea. Up until...

This study was carried out to investigate the antibiogram and Multiple Antibiotic Resistance (MAR) index of Pseudomonas spp. isolated from the smoked C. fluminea. Up until now, the information on antibiogram of local Pseudomonas spp. isolates is still lacking. Therefore, this study was carrying out to investigate the most suitable antibiotic for Pseudomonas spp. using among 19 types of antibiotics (spiramycin, tetracycline, flumequine, colistin sulphate, sulphamethoxazale, oleandomycin, florfenicol, erythromycin, ampicillin, compound sulphomides, oxolinic acid, chloramphenicol, novobiocin, lincomycin, amoxicillin, gentamicin, fosfomycin, doxycycline, and nalidixic acid). In this study, antibiotic susceptibility test against local Pseudomonas spp. was tested using disk diffusion to determine its sensitivity and MAR index values, respectively. The results showed that antibiotic sensitivity and resistance cases were reported as 32.63% and 61.05%, respectively. Intermediary sensitivity cases were recorded as 6.32%. MAR index discovered that the smoked C. fluminea in Jeli, Kelantan received high-risk exposure to the tested antibiotics. Overall, gentamycin, nalixic acid, tetracycline, flumequine, florfenicol, oxolinic acid, and chloramphenicol were successfully found to inhibit the present Pseudomonas spp. isolates. Therefore, the effective antibiotics can be used for inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas spp. from the smoked C. fluminea in Jeli, Kelantan. 2013 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Fadhilah Mohamad Razali (2013) Study of pseudomonas and aeromonas spp. colonized in smoke asian clam (corbicula fluminea) with emphasis on their antibiogram.
