Description
Summary:The present study focuses on early life cycle of climbing perch, Anahas testudineus, with emphasis on its egg yolk absorption period. This study was conducted in order to determine the best environment for climbing perch eggs to hatch and its resistance based on its egg yolk absorption period. The information from this study can help extensive, semi-intensive and intensive farmers to properly prepare the best condition for save cost for feeding the climbing perch larvae. This study was carried out under laboratory condition where climbing perch eggs are placed in different temperature, pH, salinity concentration, and formalin concentration. The best conditions for climbing perch egg yolk absorption period are 25 to 30°C, pH 8 and 9, 2 ppt of salinity and 0.00% to 0.01% of formalin. Finding showed that climbing perch eggs can tolerate slightly acidic, slightly high temperature, less salinity and formalin concentration. Nonetheless, there is need for further investigation in determining the best condition for climbing perch larvae to grow to adult size as this present study only covers early life cycle.
