Description
Summary:This study was conducted to isolate and identify Flavobacterium sp. in red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.). Red hybrid tilapia has been widely introduced around the world for food production and also well known for aquarium hobbyist. However, the industry has been affected by many diseases and one of major diseases is columnare disease which caused by Flavobacterium columnare. Therefore, to overcome the disease, this study also conducted to see the suitable antibiotic for the disease. There were 19 antibiotics that had been used in this study and the method use is Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. The fish sample was taken from Karnpung Jeram Pasu, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. The result from the experiment was taken by observed the inhibition zone (in mm). From the experiment, Flavobacterium sp. was successfully isolated using Cytophaga agar (CA) and identified by using commercial enteric identification kit. Antibiotic sensitivity test has shown that bacteria were resistant to most of the antibiotic and 100 % resistant to compound sulphonamides and lincomyin. The other antibiotics which also showed high percentage on resistance result were erythromycin, sulphamethaxazole, spiramycin, ampicillin, amoxycillin, fosfomycin, novobiocin, oxytetracycline and oleandomycin. However, there were a few antibiotics that effective to control the bacteria which are chloramphenicol which showed 100% sensitive, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, oxolinic acid, florfenicol, tetracycline, doxycycline, dan colistin sulphate. From the result, the antibiotic which was sensitive to bacteria can be used by the farmers in their fish hatchery to prevent the fish from disease caused by Flavobacterium.
