Description
Summary:An area measuring about 1.2km² located in Kg. Kedai Piah, Ketereh, Kelantan. It has been covered for the present work which encompasses effect of fertilizer on groundwater and surface water quality studies, the two main domains of research in water system. Excessive usage of nitrogen fertilizer makes a great contribution to an increase in paddy yields. Nitrogen, phosphorus and groundwater quality. It is polluting groundwater and surface water with nitrate in countries which use large amounts of fertilizer. In the case of groundwater pollution is serious since local community used it as drinking purpose. Groundwater samples have been collected for one time in order to determine the impact of previous usage of fertilizer to groundwater. All physicochemicals parameter have been compared to WHO and Malaysia drinking water quality standard. All wells contaminated by nitrate which above the Malaysian drinking water quality. The percentage of excessive NPK elements which were washed out by paddy field area was estimated. Surface water has been collected for two periods which are pre-apply fertilizer and post-apply fertilizer. By using statistic, concentration of nitrate (N0₃), phosphorus (P) and potssium (K) are significanlty different which p-value <0.05 before applied fertilizer and after applied fertilizer to their crops. The concentration of P and K in surface water are more than permissible limit which is not suitable for drinking of livestock's.
