Sungai Lebir was selected in this study due to the good quality of water stream that consists of diverse flora and fauna that protected wisely. In order to monitor the area, remote sensing was used as a tool to analyses the changes of the areas. Image used in this study was taken from Landsat 8. The Normalized Different Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used to classify the area and compare the changes between year 2014 and 2016. Result showed that five (5) classes have been identified from the images and the different percentage of land cover changes was calculated. The study identified that the area of open area or bare soil decreased from 16% to 13.4%. The bare soil covers slightly decrease while the water body coverage is increases. It is due to the effect from the bare soil or open area remaining. Meanwhile, the small vegetation or shrubs has decrease to 10.5% from the total area. The factor that affects the decreases of small vegetation was a huge flood that happen in December 2014 includes the entire river of Kelantan. The deep forest show increases in percentage from 32% in year 2014 to 36.7% in year 2016. It shows that around the Sungai Lebir area, the forest is still healthy and no causes that affected the forest such as logging activity or human encroachment. Overall, for the past two years the river side along Sungai Lebir was found slightly changed especially on small vegetation or shrubs. However, to increase the accuracy of the land cover changes, it is suggested to use high resolution and current year image and the changes of the latest year can be seen clearly. 2018 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Nor Hayanis Mohd Saufi (2018) Monitoring river side along Sungai Lebir, Gua Musang, Kelantan based on remote sensing image.
