Description
Summary:The study area is situated 2 km from South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR) Paloh, Gua Musang and 50 km from Gua Musang town. The latitude and longitude of the study area are mark at four different points which are N 05°03’50” E l01°l’43”, N 05°O1’09” E 10l°7’43", N 05°O3’5O” E l0l°20’28”, N O5°01’09” E 101 °20’28”. The objectives for this research are to update the current geological map of the study area, to classify the soils based on the soil index properties and to produce soil map according to soil classification. The rock in the study area mainly consists of sandstone unit at the Jurassic-Cretaceous age, the andesite unit and tuff unit with subordinate of carbonaceous mudstone and volcanic sandstone at the Permian age. The distribution of tuff unit is dominated from other units as the depositional environment of the study area is in land environment which is at the volcano area. For the soil index properties, laboratory tests for sedimentation, sieving, Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit and Plasticity Index were done. The result show that the study area may have three soil groups that based on the Unified Classification Soil System (USCS) standard which are poorly-graded sand,SP, poorly graded sand with silt, SP-SM and poorly graded sand with clay, SP-SC. The soil map was produced based on the soil groups according to the USCS standard.
