Preparation of raw oyster shell for removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous solution

Food waste, raw oyster shell were prepared for the adsorption of Crystal Violet dye from the aqueous solution. The adsorption using raw oyster shell were found to be more economical and effective. Various parameters such as the size of adsorbent, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, contact...

The adsorption using raw oyster shell were found to be more economical and effective. Various parameters such as the size of adsorbent, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, contact time, and pH were studied. Optimum adsorption of Crystal Violet dye were found to be at 75 µm of raw oyster shell size with 6.0 g of raw oyster shell dosage which works best on 50 mg/L initial dye concentration in 8 hour time at pH 8. Mechanism of dye adsorption were evaluated by using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. The parameters favoured Langmuir isotherm with adsorption capacity of 0.758 mg/g with R2 of 0.9998 which strongly indicates monolayer adsorption has been take place. The percentage removal were 96.09% and the raw oyster shell were found to have the potential to remove the Crystal Violet dye in aqueous solution 2018 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Mohd Yatim, Rozita (2018) Preparation of raw oyster shell for removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous solution.
