Description
Summary:In recent year, an issue related to deterioration of water quality has been increased due to human activities. As nowadays, Jeli become an attention place for people to live in thus it increases population in Jeli hence increase the waste production from their activities. Therefore, this study has concem in determine the physicochemical Water quality parameter and to compare the water quality with National Water Quality Standard (NWQS) hence determine the concentration of metal elements presence in Sungai Keding in Jeli, Kelantan. In this study, the samples were taken at upstream and downstream of the Sungai Keding. There were thirteen parameters were measured which were temperature, pH, conductivity, TDS, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, salinity, BOD, COD, TSS, ammoniacal nitrogen, O&G and metal element such as Sn, P, S, Cl and Ba. These metal elements were analyzed with XRF-Spectrophotometer. The study showed that only temperature, conductivity, TDS, turbidity, salinity, BOD and TSS parameters were under the acceptable limit of NWQS. The result showed the mean for each parameters, temperature (25.49°C- 26.15°C), pH (5.47-5.58), conductivity (62.5uS/cm-47.63uS/cm), TDS (40.38mg/l- 30.38 mg/1), turbidity (3.01 NTU-17.85NTU), DO (2.39 mg/1-2.18 mg/1), salinity (0.03ppt-0.02ppt), BOD (1.23 mg/l-0.90 mg/1), COD (133.46 mg/1-33.54 mg/1), TSS (6.37mg/l-18.66mg/l), Ammoniacal Nitrogen (0.11mg/l-0.006mg/1), O&G (15990 mg/l-4500 mg/l).Higher metal elements presence at both stations was Cl (l690.0 mg/l-1760.0 mg/l) while the lowest was Sn (17.67mg/l-19.33 mg/1). Based on NWQS, upstream of Sungai Keding has classified as polluted (59.42) meanwhile downstream was classified as slightly polluted (70.72).Spearman Correlation has showed that all the parameters had relationship with one another and Mann Whitney test showed significant differences between sampling stations. Thus, it showed that this study was crucial as it determine whether the wastewater has polluted the river or not. Moreover, the data was useful for treatment and remediation purpose in the future and be a database to the public.
