Summary:Prawn is one of the popular seafood species that belong to crustacean family and also suborder dendrobrachiata. Several different types of prawns had been found in seawater and fresh Water. Some of the species are marine and some of the species also can be found in both fresh water and brackish water. Prawn can be found in mangrove area. In this study, the diversity of prawn species had been investigated. Stake net had been used to study the diversity of prawn species involve the installation of these nets at three stations. The depth of the net that being installed are about 10 metre, 30 metre and more than 90 metre respectively. Station l is a freshwater station while Station 2 and Station 3 are marine area. Classification of prawns was based on the morphology according to ‘The living marine resources of the Western Central Pacific Shrimp and prawns (FAO, 1998). The prawns were classified to determine the name of their species and which prawn species dominated Delta Tumpat. Based on this study, eight species of prawn had been found in Delta Tumpat. There were Litopenaeus vannamei Macrobranchium rosenbergi, Penaeus monodon, Penaeus indicus, Metapenaeus ensis, Metapenaeus ajfinis, Fenneropenaeus penicillatus, Metapenaeus lysianassa. The result was found that Penaeus indicus had dominated the area with the number of 100.
