Description
Summary:The distribution of genus Dipterocarpus in Bukit Bakar Forest Eco Park, Machang has been studied as there is no preliminary study on these areas. The objectives of the study were to identify genus Dipterocarpus with dbh of less than 5cm and to measure the diversity of genus Dipterocarpus using Simpson and Shannon-Wiener indices. Samples were collected through plot sampling in five different locations with total area of 0.2 ha (20 m × 20 m). All trees with diameter breast height that are less than 5cm were enumerated and identified. A total of 10 species with 89 individuals were recorded in Bukit Bakar Forest Eco Park, Machang. Data related on vegetation analysis such as frequency, density and abundance is taken into the discussion. D.crinitus has the highest number of vegetation analysis and hold the highest IVi reading compared to other species. The diversity analysis that consists of Shannon-wiener index and Simpson index was also high with the values of 0.88 and 0.85. Thus, it indicates that this study site have high distribution of Dipterocarpus spp.. In future, this study can contribute for providing preliminary data on distribution of genus Dipterocarpus in Bukit Bakar Forest Eco Park, Machang.
