Description
Summary:Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott is an edible aroid from the family of Araceae. It is a tuber crop which is known for its variety of cooking preparation. In this study, the petioles of Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott was used as the samples with three types of different solvents based on their polarity in the extraction process. The aims of this studies are to determine the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity by using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and DPPH scavenging assay. Methanol shows the highest absorbance for total phenolic content test whereas the extract obtained by using 95% ethanol showed the highest inhibition for DPPH scavenging assay and IC50 values. These results indicate that Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott has antioxidant activity including phenolic and can be consumed as food supplements to increase health benefits and lower the risk of diseases.
