Khatoon, Rabia Khoo, Ee Ming R Medicine Stroke is the third leading cause of death, a major cause of disability in adults, and is frequently more disabling than fatal. With a decline in mortality from initial cerebral infarcton and an increase in the life expectancy of the population, the number of patients with recurrent stroke and ensuing cardiovascular events will become greater.
