Both areas were filled and compacted. A hand auger was also used to determine the type and depth of the first layer of the soil. The depth of the first layer must more than 2 feet. This is because we want to determine the bearing capacity on a homogeneous soil. For homogeneous soil, the depth of the first layer under the plate must more than two times the diameter of the plate. The diameter of the plate used in this project was one foot. The reason using plate load test and J.K.R probe to determine the bearing capacity of the soil were those method were practical to carry out on site and economy.
